Speaking at a media conference with France's President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, he said these countries would not have survived more than a week” without US support, reports “Al Jazeera”, the Periscope broadcast.
The “countries that are in this area, some of which are extremely wealthy, would not be there, except for the United States and to a smaller extent in France,” said Trump.
They wouldn't be there without the presence of the United States. They couldn't survive a week. We're protecting them. Now they will take the first steps to pay our country,” added Trump.
Trump seemed to rely on an earlier decision to withdraw American forces from Syria when he stressed Tuesday that it was important not to allow Iran to increase its influence in the region.
In response to Trump's remarks, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubair said Qatar must pay for the US presence in Syria./Periscopi/
