On April 1, 1999, in Lubenik, Pec, in the early hours of the morning, Serbian paramilitary units led by the group “Chekeyt” surrounded and then entered the village.
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci says this event was cruel, and has remembered all innocent civilians who died that day.
The first day of April 19 years ago, it was very cruel for the inhabitants of Lubenic of Pec and all our citizens. Serbian police and military forces, after looting the village, killed and slaughtered about 80 innocent civilians -- men, elderly, women and children” -- wrote Thaci.
The institutional assessment for all the fallen will be eternal, but freedom and any value built with sacrifice will never be complete without the punishment of those who committed these crimes and without making the fate of all missing”, Thaci concluded in a text addressed on his official Facebook page.
