The European Union's foreign policy chief, Federica Moghrini, officially presents the European Parliament's Foreign Commission in Strasbourg with progress-reporting for countries wishing to become part of the Union, including Albania.
Moghrini said in her address that the Council decides to open membership talks with Albania and Macedonia.
“Today the college approved the annual enlargement package for the Western Balkans and Turkey. It is our interest to have a successful enlargement policy. The Western Balkans is Europe and will be part of the EU's future. It's for our benefit and our citizens. Each country is assessed on the basis of personal merit and progress on reforms. Over the past year our Balkan partners have undertaken very important reform. The council decides to open membership talks with Albania and Macedonia”, Moghrini said.
Meanwhile, Johannes Hahn said the EC acknowledges the progress Macedonia and Albania have made that leads to opening talks
