Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said today that concrete steps have been made in strengthening the rule of law and that progress has been made in the fight against corruption, but there is still to be done in this direction.
He during the National Anti-corruption Council meeting acknowledged that fighting organised crime and corruption is not easy, but still has work to do.
Over the past ten years, Kosovo has taken a series of actions for rule of law. Kosovo has approved legislation on this area. Kosovo has had challenges in implementing legislation. President Thaci said the number of judges and prosecutors has risen gradually, as well as the budget for institutions of rule of law has increased.
Among the laws adopted so far in the fight against corruption, he cited the law for the penal code, the code of criminal procedure, the law for courts, the one for the prosecutorial council, the police, the Anti-corruption Agency, the law for prevention of conflict of interest, as well as other laws.
The head of state also said Kosovo has already met the 95 criteria necessary for visa liberalisation.
