The wedding ceremony has become an act of resistance for 40 young couples in Brazil.
80 members of the LGBT community in Sau Paulu were co-ordinated on Saturday to exchange pledges and rings before the presidential candidate, Jair Bolsonaro, sits in the highest state office on January 1st.
Members of a local nongovernmental organisation that supports the LGBT cause in behalf of young people expressed that the new President Bolsonaro could abolish the right recognised by the Supreme Court in 2011 for same - gender marriage.
While the newlyweds named the final ceremony a political act, an act of resistance that still does not underestimate the love they have for each other.
Although President-elect Bolsonaro has not made statements against gay marriage during this year's campaign, some former homophobic attitudes have been met with concern by the LGBT community in Brazil.
In two interviews in 2011 and 2002, Bolsonaro said that if he had a gay son, he would like to die in an accident, and if he saw two men kissing on the street, he would punch him.
Gay marriages in Brazil have been legalized since May 2013.
