Belgrade's pressure on Kosovo Serbs has continued on Saturday, when MP Slobodan Petrovic was detained for 4 hours at the Merdare border checkpoint.
Petrovic, who is also chairman of Serbian Liberal Paris, says he was questioned by police and then, by the Serbian secret service.
After what happened to him by Serbian authorities, MP Petrovic expresses concern for his family's safety.
On Saturday, I headed towards a private visit, for a cream to my sister and at the border point in Merdare, as usual, handed in the documents and after verification, a policeman came out of the office and after 15-20 minutes of conversation, told me to enter a room. I asked them why? I was told they had orders from BIA to hold me until BIA came, and as I was told by BIA, they were from Prokuplja to talk to me. I stayed there maybe two hours until they came in and they told me they were from BIA”, Petrovic said.
Petroviqi calls this continuous pressure from Belgrade.
He says he was asked about many topics such as his positions on the tax and the Kosovo Army.
Petroviqi explained he was released on an order that, according to him, came from Belgrade.
<x) Not only on topics in Kosovo, but on general topics already known. And when it was 4: 00 p.m., I was afraid I would not be released for long. This is obviously pressure on me for the work I do and it's illegal, because the goal was to fear or send me a message. These events frighten Kosovo Serbs and other citizens, but it is necessary for international institutions to declare it”, Petrovic has said.
Political views on Kosovo, unlike the Serbian List, say they are putting pressure on it directly from Serbia.
We view this as some kind of pressure, because you know we have two political subjects in Parliament representing Serbs like SLS and the Serbian List. Our attitudes are quite different. We are the authentic representatives of Serbs here and protect them as much as we can. We have no problem with this. And today, this experience suggests that they can do other things. I'm sure these things are intentional and illegal, so they have to react, because they have to somehow prevent the biggest consequences or some” tragedy, Petrovic said.
Petrovic's ban at the border checkpoint in Merdare has been condemned by Kosovo institutions.
