As “reports AP”, Serbia is considering the possibility of military intervention in Kosovo after the Kosovo Assembly unanimously approved the formation of the military.
Belgrade has called “the region's most direct peace threat and stability”, while on the other hand, the chief of staff is on the other side NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, has said the formation of the army is taking place at an inappropriate time, thus calling for dialogue.
The army vote was reached by 107 votes for and none against, where MPs voted three laws, with which the increase in the number of members, the establishment of the Ministry of Defence, and the change of duties and the KSF mission. Serbian deputies from the Kosovo Parliament have boycotted the vote, not appearing at all in the hall.
According to the English daily Serbia insists the Kosovo Army violates the UN resolution that ended the war in Kosovo. Serbia has threatened to respond with military intervention, while on the other hand Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabiq had stated days before that “such an option is on table”.
Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, has visited Serb troops today along the border line with Kosovo. Nikola Sekalovic, adviser to the Serbian president, has declared that Serbia can send armed forces or declare Kosovo occupied territory. Meanwhile, Serbia's Foreign Affairs Minister, Ivica Dacic, has declared that Serbia will seek urgent meetings at the UN Security Council.
On the other side of northern Mitrovica, Goran Rakiq, has said the new army “is unacceptable” and “clearly indicates that Pristina does not want peace”. Even as <x4 reports > AP”, Rakiq has called on Serbs in Kosovo to be cautious and not respond to provocations.
In response to the formation of the Kosovo Army, Serbs in the northern part of Mitrovica have placed flags of Serbia on the streets and terraces of apartments, and on the other hand, NATO peacekeepers are stationed on the bridge separating the town of Mitrovica.
Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the Kosovo authorities' action, claiming the military must be disbanded.
However, “AP” writes that any military intervention of Serbia in Kosovo would imply direct confrontation with NATO peacekeepers, including American soldiers stationed in Kosovo since 1999.
