Vetevendosje Movement Chairman Albin Kurti has recalled this moment and has said that when Serb forces had gone to the Jashari family to arrest and take up arms, they had expected a resistance from the Jashar family.
“In 1991, as a result of UDB surveys and prosecutions against several Kosovo groups who had conducted military exercises in Albania, many arrests had been made and many weapons brought to Kosovo by these groups were seized. Adam and Hamez Jashar were aware of these arrests and imprisonments the enemy was making on different sides of Kosovo”, Kurti wrote.
He has said that in the wake of these plots for arrests and collection of weapons on the morning of December 30th 1991, numerous Serbian forces surrounded Prekazi and the Jashar family.
“In the police call for surrender, Baba Shabani with Rifat, Hamza and Ademi boys responded with rifle shots. Serbian forces had not expected such resistance, they had gone to arrest and collect weapons. However, the Yasar family had not taken up arms to surrender. They had decided to fight for the liberation of the country, so they resisted all day fighting”, Kurti said further in his Facebook post.
On that day and in that place, Kurti writes, there was hope and courage for many boys and girls who will come, because we have people who have the Lord of the homeland, who make armed resistance, without sparing themselves. The Jashars Before KLA.
“The organisation and mobilization for the liberation war they fought for 7 years peaked with the activism and extent of the liberation war in all parts of the captive Kosovo”, Kurti has concluded.
