Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdoğan reiterated his claim that Saudi Arabia knew who killed Khashogi.
Khashoggi, a critic of Saudi rulers, was killed at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October.
Saudi Arabia has admitted to being killed there, but denied suggestions involving the royal family.
Saudis have also denied comments made by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, describing Khashoggi as a dangerous Islamic.
The phone call reported at the White House came before Saudi Arabia admitted that Khashogg was killed.
