Dermot Shea, chief of the New York Police Department, said that Talat Fara, 16, and Rotana Fara, 23, reportedly preferred to commit suicide rather than return to Saudi Arabia.
Mr. Shea said that young girls may be subx0> entering living water”.
Their bodies were found together, bound by tape in the middle and in the leg, police said.
Based on film evidence, eyewitness testimony and purchases with credit cards for food, hotel and transport, police say there is no possibility that other people are involved in the death of the sisters.
Girls who had lived in the United States for about three years may have been subject to physical abuse and may have sought asylum.
Their family in the state of Virginia had seen their daughters for the last time in 2017. VoA
