In lifting the mandate, 58 MPs voted, while against 29 VMRO deputies. To obtain the mandate, 80 deputies or two-thirds of the deputies had to vote.
The initiative was presented to the Commission on mandate cases following the announcement that Parliament had received from the court for the sentence of Nikola Gruevs to two years in prison.
The parliamentary majority had called for taking the mandate with the argument that “Nicolla Gruevski is not worthy to exercise MP”.
But the request for the mandate, by VMRO-DPMNE, praised him as politically motivated.
Gruevski was due to appear in prison Thursday, but it has been postponed for some day, due to a new request on his part for the postponement of the penalty.
Former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski is also being tried for further abuse of official office, for election fraud, ordered violence against former opposition leaders in a Skopje municipality, and other financial abuses.
On the other hand, the parliamentary majority rejected yet another opposition request in line with the session's day on Friday, to place the amnesty law approval proposal for all persons involved in violent events in the Macedonian Assembly on April 27, 2017.
About 30 people, including six disfellowshipped VMRO DPMNE deputies, are being tried for criminal work “terrorist endangerment of constitutional order”.
