Mitrovica shopping massacre in 1999: Serbs say Albanians themselves did, survivors speak

Just days before the start of the NATO forces shelling over Serbia, Serbian forces threw a grenade into the green market in the centre of the city of Mitrovica, crowded with men who had found 6 Albanians dead, while more than 128 were seriously injured.

For the town of Mitrovica and its citizens, it is considered the most painful case that has occurred until then.

Now nearly 20 years later, writings in several Serbian media allegedly uncovered the authors of this tragic event by accusing Albanians themselves of committing such an act, while not saving even top Kosovo politicians' names.

According to these writings of Serbian media, many Albanians who were part of this massacre and who are now alive have testified.

Survivors of this massacre, speaking of Kosova Prees, have flatly denied these writings, praising that it is a scenario that only Serbian circles can prepare.

Azem Beqiri from Mitrovica, one who escaped the death of this tragedy, has suggested that the grenade was thrown down by Serbs, while Serbian media writings for allegedly Albanian authors called it propaganda.

Bariqiri: It doesn't come to an expression that Albanians have done it

I am one of the injuries to the market event in Mitrovica... I'm in four places injured. I'm also injured in my back as a result of the grenade the Serbs threw... the consequences suffer today and that day. I'm disabled in war. I don't have my right elbow at all. This hand can't be straight. Kosovo's chief speaker, this is a pure lie. It doesn't come out of the question that our Albanians did it, that's what Serb forces... This people, this one. U n The CK, Kadri Vesel and others that are mentioning Serbian media, these are just Serbia's propaganda. Kadri Wessel did not drop the bomb in Sarajevo, because the same thing happened there... this is Serbia's” scenario, Beqiri said.

Savedin Uka, as well as one of the survivors of the massacre, said the grenade was thrown by the Serbian Army that day with similar scenarios in Bosnia.

According to him, the authors are the same, and there is no doubt about that.

Even Fazli Latifi from the village of Dedi of Mitrovica has indicated that the Mitrovica massacre is similar to that of Bosnia and that authors are Serb forces.
