28 November is not part of the calendar of Kosovo's official holidays, even though this day is celebrated every time and the same day is announced for all state institutions. Historians, even Kosovo Assembly deputies, are demanding that this holiday be part of the official holiday calendar.
According to them, national values are being violated in this form.
Flag Day, November 28, is marked almost wherever Albanian is spoken. Red and black flags also mark the almost 11 - year - old state, where 95 percent of the population are Albanians.
This date, on which the Albanian state's independence on four Albanian villas was declared in 1912, makes up other stories for Albanians.
On November 28th is the birthday of legendary Kosovo Liberation Army Commander Adem Jashari and the date when the KLA first appeared publicly, in 1997 at the funeral of teacher Halit Geci at Drenica Lausa.
All of this causes the emotions of Albanians in Kosovo in these November days to be great, and almost everything gets the color of the holiday.
With Kosovo's declaration of independence, in February 2008, it was decided to be the official holiday of February 17th and 28th. November alone remained at the memorial parties. This came out of the Ahtisaari package, through which independence was declared.
But historian Frasher Demaj is saying that there was a big mistake when the 28th party was removed. November official holiday calendar.
The “is due to pressure from the international community not to get confused with Albania, it's also the result of the pressure of Serbia and Kosovo Serbs, and it's probably the result of unwillingness, and as if our politicians always feel inferior in relation to other people's demands, because I don't believe that Europe would insist as much on saying no once, because if we remove it from the calendar of holidays in Kosovo 28 November then we violate our national cultural values and affect the sense of Kosovo Albanians”, Demaj tells Kosova Prees.
He says 28 November is not just a holiday of Albania, but of all Albanians.
Demaj shows that they have consistently asked the state institutions to return this holiday to the calendar.
“Gati every year the historian community has appealed to state institutions to return 28 November on the Kosovo State Festival calendar, since it is a national holiday rather than a holiday of Albania, and it is incorrect to deprive people of the feeling of celebrating, for a national holiday that is very important to them. So I say that this requirement is still valid to this day, and the Kosovo government should, if not the government then the Parliament, with a special vote to return the independence of Albanians as a state and national holiday”, Demaj says.
The Law on Official Festivals was adopted in 2008, and since then off the holiday list, it has remained November 28th.
Nat Hasani, chairman of the Commission for Public Administration, Local Governance and Media, in the Kosovo Assembly, says 28 November doesn't belong at Memorial parties.
“28 November is left at memorial parties, which have no place there, should be an official holiday, should be a state holiday because it's a huge number of Albanian residents 95 percent, and we have a memorial party. It's not fair, it's not equal, so it's left in this form for the sake of an international agreement. This international agreement must be changed and 28 November should become an official state holiday”, Hasani says of Kosovas Prees.
He adds that this is the international community's policy in relation to the Ahtisaari Pack, so it is difficult to change.
While Rasim Alija, from D4D, says on the 28th holiday issue November has implications because Kosovo has the February 17th holiday, and because of minorities living in the Republic of Kosovo.
“28 November because of the sign that she has as a day in our collective memory, she'd like to sit down as a society and determine whether we want to celebrate as an official party, what she has to do with the part of the state of Kosovo, what are the signs or the emotional part of Kosovo society with 28 November and based on this, it would have been to determine whether it would be the official holiday of the Republic of Kosovo or not. There are a lot of complications here because we have February 17th which is the holiday of Kosovo's eight, especially other implications with the minorities we have in Kosovo”, Alija says.
Until 28 November is not part of the official holiday calendar in Kosovo, there are other dates marked by holiday and holiday, but considered unnecessary.
Currently, the state of Kosovo has 11 official holidays: New Year, Orthodox Christmas, Independence Day of Kosovo, Catholic Easter, Orthodox Easter, Constitutional Day, International Labour Day, Europe Day, the Great Bayram, the Little Bayram, and Catholic Christmas.
Festivals such as Constitutional Day, Europe Day, or May Day are considered unnecessary in Kosovo, to be official holidays and on the same day off.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Public Administration announced that all Kosovo institutions, in honour of the 28th holiday. November today will be a day off.
