Kosovo President Hashim Thaci's statement that Kosovo would vote the same as America for recognising Jerusalem the capital of Israel has been made news at the Jewish agency JTA.
“Thaci said in an interview recently given he said that if Kosovo could achieve full membership in the United Nations, it would vote like the United States, including last month's Jerusalem vote, the Express broadcasts.
The UN General Assembly adopted a non-binding resolution condemning recognition of the Trump administration from Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Only 8 countries voted just like the United States and 53 others abstained.
The US delegation to the United Nations on Wednesday issued a decision to all 64 states. Among those who did not vote for the resolution was Bosnia, which like Kosovo is a Muslim majority.
Kosovars are overwhelmingly pro-American and also admire Jews. The Clinton administration led NATO action in 1999 that pushed Serbia's depression towards its Muslim majority, Albanian-speaking province and George W. Bush recognised Kosovo when he declared independence in 2008. Jewish Americans, citing the example of world inaction during the Holocaust, helped promote the US-led intervention in 1999.
So far, over 100 countries have recognised Kosovo as an independent state. Those who have not, among them, fear an example that will be established by recognising a state that declares independence unilaterally. The opposition of Russia and China have kept Kosovo away from UN membership.
