The country's prime minister, Ramush Haradinaj, at the opening of this meeting, said the Government of the Republic of Kosovo is committed on its road to rule of law and expresses its support in this direction. But, Prime Minister Haradinaj singled out that only an inter-institutional action could bring success in the joint effort to rule the law.
For the American Ambassador to Pristina, Greg Delaway, Kosovo Customs must continue with fighting corruption and organised crime and that reforms must be continued and with co-ordination of other acts for rule of law.
Meanwhile, the chief of the EU Office in Kosovo, Nataliya Apostolova, said the European Union is the country's biggest donor and partner, on its way to rule of law.
Kosovo Customs Director Bahri Berisha said the projection of the institution he heads is that in 2018, there should be inflow of 1.175 billion euros, while 65 percent of all taxes in Kosovo are collected by Dogana. Among the challenges of functioning of this institution was cited in the creation of a joint national intelligence unit and the appointment of separate prosecutors and judges for Customs cases.
Finance Minister Bedri Hamza has said Kosovo Customs has full support in their work, and that for this very reason, the budget has already been set aside for the construction of the ATK and Customs facility. Also, Hamza said this institution should keep in mind that persons under meritocracy should be deployed to leadership positions.
On the other hand, Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri cited the fact that State Lawyers are currently failing to examine all the materials related to Dogans, which reach 3260 substances and that in this direction Customs itself is working to create its own capacities to treat them.
At today's meeting, Minister of European Integrations, Gift Hoxha, Minister of Internal Affairs Flamur Sefaj, EULEX chief Alexander Papadopoulos, and other representatives from the respective institutions participated.
The next meeting, the summit for Sundim of the Law, will be held in a month, while the focus will be on the prosecution's work and the challenges that follow.
