Although North Korea continues to threaten its neighbors and enemies with nuclear attacks, the world still knows very little about the dictatorial state.

The North Korean government is extremely secretive. Once in the country, visitors are instructed that they cannot make any videos or photos. Customs agents inspect phones and other digital devices, including cameras, tablets, and storage cards, for prohibited content.

But Xiaolu Chum, a popular photographer of “Gety Images” managed to overcome all these obstacles during a train trip to the isolated country.

He managed to document everyday life by means of his telephone lens.
Chum told “Bussines Insider” it was very dangerous to use a camera because locals could report it to the police.

But he managed to take some of the rarest photographs of North Korea, a priceless test to understand what life really is like within Kim Jong's isolated Kingdom.
