The dismissed Katalan President Carles Puigdemont and 13 members of his government have been summoned to appear at a court in Madrid this week. The move responds to charges of rebellion filed by the Spanish chief prosecutor against regional officials who supported Catalou's independence in the referendum, organised on October 1st.

Spain's Supreme Court has called dismissed Katalan leader Charles Puigdemont and 13 members of his government to appear at a session during the week. The court also gave officials three days to pay a deposit of 6.2m euros to cover possible obligations. The tribunal's call comes after Spain's chief prosecutor stated Monday that he would file charges against Catalan leaders, including charges of rebellion.

Mr. Puigdemont is currently located in Belgium, along with several former regional ministers, but former Catalonija president said he would not seek political asylum there.

Puigdemont sparked a crisis in Spain following the organisation of an independence referendum in early October, despite controversy from Madrid and the Constitutional Court's decision declaring the vote illegal. The central government of Spain has already taken direct control of Catalonija, while the region will head early elections on December 21st.
