At least 15 people have died due to landslides in three areas of Athens' suburbs following torrential rains.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Cipras expressed in a message at “Tatter” his deep sadness and declared national mourning over this tragedy.
At least 12 others have been admitted to the hospital, while one person has been declared missing”, Greece's official news agency ANA reports.
Many have been trapped in their homes, while others have been taken from the water while outdoors or in their vehicles.
The bodies of two people had even gone out to sea, where the portal police had found them.
“This is the same as a tsunami”, said Evangelos Kolovetzos, a dealer whose store was completely destroyed.
After heavy night rains, torrents of mud flooded early in the morning in Nea Peramos, Mandra and Megara about 50 km west of Athens.
