Life on Mount Tushet, an angle northeast of Georgia, has not changed much in 100 years. Sheep go into numbers, and modern life has barely touched this area.
This area is home to some of the most dangerous roads and the less welcoming environments in Europe, and one of the migrations to the most incredible animal continent. Each October, courageous shepherds are supplied with local drink, called “Chaca”, risk their lives by directing hundreds of sheep from the mountaintops to the low fields of Kachheti.
To do that they walk on a hill high 2,700m Abano Pasas, one of the most dangerous roads in the world. This annual migration has been captured by the photograph of Radio Free Europe, Amos Chapple, in pictures filled with dramas from top to bottom. He has travelled with shepherds and taken these pictures to hold their breath as they descend the mountain to an area border with Russia.
