As seen in film footage by security cameras, Kaya has been accompanied by others on the table when a person dressed in black clothes has quietly entered the restaurant and fired a hail of bullets at the lawyer.
Kudbetttin Kaya is one of the defendants in the Ergenekon case. That is the name given to an alleged ultranationalist organisation in Turkey, thought to be linked to members of the country's military and security forces.
The group was accused of terrorism and of plotting against the government in Turkey, while a series of high profile trials have been organised under the issue, starting in 2008, broadcast Oranews.
But the group's existence has not been possible to prove itself, and thus all persons accused and imprisoned in connection with the case have been released from sentences.
