Editor Why Kosovo should remain indifferent to Catalonia issue

Taking into account the circumstances of oppression and violence in which Kosovo society has passed, a large number of people on social networks yesterday expressed their support for the independence of Catalonia, and demanded that Kosovo recognise it as the state “since it had passed under similar circumstances”. But this attitude violates radical changes in [...]

But this stance sharply violates radical changes in the economic-political contexts of the two cases.

Initially, it should be highlighted that Kosovo stormed the creation of a social state, a state where socialised inequalities, and thus economic, between people and our cities. Fortunately, in Kosovo there is no great economic difference between the cities or provinces that make up it. But most other European countries have a lot of emphasis on inequality. Italy is the best - known example. Sicily is very poor compared with Lombardine and generally northern Italy. A similar but slightly smaller difference lies between Catalonia and most other autonomous provinces that make up Spain.

Since we target a social state, and since the vote for the Kosovo Social Democratic Party Vetevendosje is on the rise, it would be fair to be for a budget distribution that attempted to reduce inequality. I believe everyone has clear slogans of protesters demanding independence in Catalonia. One of them was “Spain was stealing” The truth is, Spain's money from Catalonia does not return it all to Catalonia. Of the 20% money received from this country, 16% returns. But since Spain is a state that, regardless of who was in power, applied a clear economic line towards achieving a social state, that money was led to the easing of poverty in other areas.

And Spain is one of the countries that currently has an extraordinary economic opening, considering the deep crisis in which it was involved, even risking bankruptcy. A few days ago, Lombardia also requested a new taxation from Rome, since their taxpayers ' money went to the poor in Sicily and other countries. That's a reason that we Kosovars, who face social injustice daily, should not accept.

Another even stronger reason not to know Catalonia is the complete failure of the Catalan will. The October 1st referendum was accompanied by numerous irregularities, and with a very low exit. The reason was that the Catalan parties seeking the remnant in Spain boycotted the whole process. And they can be taken for granted, how many voter abuses have been taken by being alone in organization, parties seeking secession. We also mentioned the low percentage of exits 43%, of which 90 voted against. Catalonia has held referendums for independence in the past, and always the will of the Catalans has been standing with Spain, with a great distance of votes. The Kosovo case was quite different, since we were over 90% pro-independence and full break from Yugoslavia.

Another solid reason not to give recognition to unilaterally declared independence is not being supported by any Western country, and on the other hand support by Russian leader Vladimir Putin. We have part of a geostrategic game, and it is not in our interest to weaken the EU (which is Putin's cause for supporting Catalonian Independence) and to strengthen Russia.

As a result of a possible success of this independence, at least fifteen other European countries, within France, Spain again, Germany, Poland, Italy, and others. would increase the vote for populist parties seeking division. Lombardia has already taken a political step. South Tiroll had bloody efforts to separate from Italy in the past. As were the Basks and the separatist group already extinct ETA.

Kosovo should be pragmatic on the geostrategic plain and line up with its allies. In the meantime, I also have to look beyond a blind pragmatism to see the inner interests of its citizens, so that it does not support the design that attacks our quest for a welfare and social state for all.

And to finish up, there is a need for accuracy in the cultural and national aspect of Spain in the first place. With the meaning of most people in Kosovo concerning the nation as an organic and romantic entity, Spain as a nation does not exist, nor does the Spaniard as the oppressor of the rights of another nation. Spain, from this point of view of the nation, is an artificial state. It is made up of 17 provinces and 2 autonomous cities, which from a cultural and national point of view (if we speak with organic terms), are very different. So if we want the nation to understand it this way, then the nations are all these provinces, including Catalonia, Bask Place, Extremadura, Castilia, Andalusia, etc. but not Spain.

And yet, this has nothing to do with cultural aspect since there are no restrictions on either of the provinces. And it would be ironic if there were, because practically, they would choose to restrict themselves or the provinces from which they come.
